A home office, a baby, a life

Great read! Advice for potential boss moms

write meg!

Who knew a room could launch you into adulthood?

I spend a strange amount of time not feeling “old enough.” Not old enough to have a house, a car, credit cards, a checkbook. Not being old enough to have a husband and a baby on the way; not old enough to argue with cable companies and insurance representatives, to be grocery shopping independently and gathering tax documents.

Though I don’t obsess about it, I often feel like I’m glancing over my shoulder — waiting for someone else to swoop in and take care of things. Fix the insurance snafus; adjust the thermostat. Be the adult in the room.

It’s scary to realize you’re the adult present. The one throwing the party, taking the phone calls, signing up for health care. It’s all you.

We have a home office. One with built-in cabinetry, outlets for computers, actual computers, a mug with…

Self care is not a Sin

Ladies- this one is for us. As queens we are often times burdened with the onus of multitasking with little to no time left for ourselves and that right there is the first mistake- neglecting our self. To give the best of us we have to feel our best and as such have to carve out time to care for self before caring for others.  So if that means something is to be rolled over into tomorrow’s priority list- let that be. Too many times we try our best to get everything done within that 24 hours allotted to us, while that is applause worthy- at what cost? Too many times we forego our inner peace and mental health to appease others. This must stop.

Spend time indulging in what rejuvenates you, eg. Traveling, Dancing, Dressing up- it’s ok to do these things, it is ok to enjoy yourself in what ever manner you choose. We must understand that the days of answering to a master or authoritative figure has long gone, that master is now the self. Make better choices where you are concerned, exercise your right to freedom and discipline.  Validation of self by self = confidence. This is some thing that we all

have issues with, trusting that we have done the right thing or made the right decision. In life there is no right nor is there  any wrong, there are however opportunities and great mistakes. Be thankful always for all that you have at any given time.

It is never too late to pick up a new hobby or learn a new skill- if you’ve always been interested in music believe in yourself and try it out! Cooking? Believe in yourself and try it out! Dancing? Believe in yourself and try it out! You’ll never know how good you are at something until you believe in yourself, pray and try it out. Even if at first you fail that in itself is a huge win if you are persistent. Failure simply is saying I refuse to try again. You and your happiness are worth every trial and error there is to make in the land of the living.

Go Down the Rabbit Hole: A Writer’s Manifesto

Writing for Digital Media

1. You are the work. The work is you: both an articulation of the self and a possibility for self-reflection. Be honest in creation: allow yourself to bleed into the work, but also allow it to work on you. Your work can show you things: illuminate and clarify your own thoughts, motivations, actions. If you do it right, you will find the work changing you, too.

2. Thinking is process. Laying on the floor. Sitting on park benches. Getting lost on purpose. These are all working. Learn the difference between mindless distraction and mindful wandering.

3. Go down the rabbit hole. Sometimes the work isn’t about what you think it is. Allow yourself to get lost down alleyways, to follow a train of thought around a corner. Don’t feel you need to reign yourself in. Too much focus squeezes all the possibility for revelation out of the work.

4. Fear…

The Beauty of Teens

The Human Rights Warrior

Photo credit to my son Sevrin Photo taken by (and used with permission from) my son Sevrin at his high school sailing team practice.

As I write this, there are seven teens asleep in my basement.  My son and his friends came back from their high school dance in high spirits last night. Laughing and joking loudly, they boisterously descended on my kitchen, devouring everything within reach (even some chips that I thought I had hidden pretty well).  These guys were the human equivalent of an invading colony of army ants, foraging insatiably through my refrigerator.

Now these boy-men are dead to the world, asleep in a puppy pile on my basement floor.  And I have to be honest – I am loving every single thing about these teens.   In fifteen plus years of parenthood, I have grown accustomed to – perhaps, in some ways, inured to – the many and diverse aspects of wonder in…

Kitty kat chronicles pt 2

All love stems from love of self….. And the self is more simple than we’d like to believe. The self is the taboo’d parts we’d rather much just ignore but it’s there and it needs love and affection just like everything else. Yes I’m talking about genital care therapy!
Before you close this post in disgust, or before you pass a rash judgement ask yourself- when was the last time I truly showed my genital area some tender loving care? Valentine’s has passed and the much anticipated love filled sex has cum and it has gone. Does the loving stop? Does the genital area care cease? Does the care filled attention given stop giving- no! This weekend if done right and with conscientious effort is not so much about the other as it is about you being your best at all times. Acknowledging what makes you shine and doing more of it, most times it’s just you taking care of you- entirely. So for those who love to have a hair free care free zone here’s a quick trick of the trade to keeping the Netherlands easy and breezy:
1) Comb through to make sure all knots and kinks are out
2) Trim hair to the lowest possible level
3) Using aloe Vera gel lather the area
4) Using clean new shaving stick- mow the lawn
5) Post trim care- rub tea tree oil on shaved area to prevent razor bumps and in grown hair.
6) Soothe area with remaining aloe Vera and or coconut oil. Let it breathe easy.

Kitty kat chronicles pt1

It is drawing nigh, yes ladies and gents- Valentines day. Not to be mistaken for Valentimes which is an entirely other thing that has little to do with what i’m talking about- Valentines day.
So if you’re newly enamored with someone other than yourself and or immediate family members- you are in a relationship! So here’s the nitty gritty about that, these socially constructed holidays were created by the capitalist with your pockets in mind, and nothing to do with your heart….So being the true rebel that I am it is only fitting that I share how you too, can partake in the festivities but on a budget- and here comes the good stuff.
So you’re spending your first Valentines day boo’d up or maybe it’s your 10th…and if you’re realllly lucky you’ve lost track but you are sure you’re spending it with your best friend, your love. But still you’re all like eff this- i’m not spending a grip for this bum ass day anyways….. Well here are some tips, tricks, and new things that can be done to spruce up your day with out even hurting your pocket.

Women this one is for you
Its a well known self esteem booster that for one to feel good we have to treat ourselves good- and something simple and meaningful such as using a new fragrance can do the trick. And it doesn’t have to be that pricy eau de fu fu kind either. You can use essential oils diluted in a light carrier oil eg. Sweet almond oil and dab it behind the ear and pulse points of the wrist- not smelling overbearingly whorish.

Men this goes for you as well….
Feeling good is paramount to how one treats themselves. So treat your good-looking self good, dude. Same procedure; try a new fragrance such as Egyptian musk with a hint of dragon blood diluted with sweet almond oil and use it sparingly on your pulse points, your beard even. Shake it up and watch worlds collide.

Next up- another self pampering give away-
A pre date au naturale facial mask- using just aloe vera on the face to moisturize and give an impeccable glow. Even if you are going to wear make up treat your skin with the love it deserves. This can be applied to both men and women as we are both equally yolked in skin.

So- we are chilling keeping it low-key.
Some where during this sordid love fest day- food has to be eaten. Be bold and daring, find a new recipe you’ve been eyeing for a while and get to work. Put your heart into it….Eg. Home-made Roti with chow and just because you can- sorrel. Let your mate know how much you appreciate them with a glass of sorrel and it ain’t even christmas. Every great meal culminates with desert 😉 something as simple as a maple syrup drizzled fruit salad with fruits pre- soaked in wine or rum with flakes of nutmeg. It doesn’t have to be all the way fancy, but again so long as it’s from the heart and made with smiles and pure goodness of the heart- it cyan go wrong. Trying something new never gets old.

For those who are more expressive through art-
Let your muse know that they have been your source of inspiration by dedicating a piece of your prose to them, or whatever your craft may be. Create with them in mind- This too is a surefire way to create lasting memories…….

Celebrate and add to the net value of the universe- Love always!!
